Well, as if the two snowstorms, one being a blizzard, in one week wasn't enough excitement around here. My poor hubby has back problems as some of you know. He is a man and if you know men, they are kinda, well sorta, stubborn. Out he went into the snow, shovel in hand and my son right behind him. This wasn't the fluffy, blowing kind of snow, but the heavy, wet, you can make the bestest snowman in the world kind of snow! Boy, is it heavy.
They finished shoveling came inside and I warmed them up with a hot, steamy bowl of chicken soup and a cup of hot cocoa...with marshmallows of course. All was right with the world. A beautiful scene just like a Currier & Ives calendar from the 50's, right outside our window. The power was working, so we were super cozy and I had picked up three dvd's, as a just in case we get snowed in precaution.
Its 4am......the sounds of moaning and pain coming from the upstairs bathroom. I go quickly to check and there is the sorta stubborn hubby standing slumped over. He thinks he must have pulled "something" while shoveling.........he explains the pain and we both say in unison.....I don't think its the back this time.
Wake up the kids to help clean off the truck, now that about 7 inches of snow has fallen since the shoveling outing. Off we go in slush, ice and snow to the Emergency Room. I am not the most confident of drivers in ice and snow and wanted to call 911, but was convinced that I could make the drive safely. Thank God we did and I know for sure that my angels guided us all the way.
You have a Kidney Stone!! Oh, what fun we thought. What is that? How do I get rid of it? Well, for all of you out there who have ever experienced this fun first hand or have been with someone you love experiencing this fun, you know it just isn't FUN. The doctor pretty much described the "fun" to my hubby as Male Labor....but without the bouncing baby at the end.....just a ROCK!
We heard all of the jokes. And with it being so close to Valentine's Day, the nurses were telling my husband to save the stone and mount it in a nice setting. With the hospital costs being what they are today, it will probably cost MORE than a 1 carat diamond ring!
Just thought I would share my last two days....oh, I forgot to mention..the kids had NO school either. Between visits to the ER, doctors office, pharmacy, they were waiting at 10pm last night to ask me: What's For Dinner????
Wish me luck today....they did admit the poor man and I hope I can get him home today.....
Love,
T
